The Shiro Copr - Here is the Short Friday Sermon Text on July 18, 2025: Utilize Your Life Time for Good Deeds and Worship.
The delivery of the Friday sermon is one of the many pillars that must be performed on Fridays.
The method for delivering a brief sermon is mentioned in a hadith reported by Muslim and Ahmad as follows.
Amir ibn Yasir said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying, "Indeed, the length of a man's prayer and the brevity of his sermon are an indication of his knowledge. So, lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon." And indeed, there is magic in eloquence. (Reported by Muslim and Ahmad)
It means: "From Ammar ibn Yasir (it is reported that) he said: Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Indeed, the length of prayer and the brevity of the sermon of the preacher is a sign of one's understanding of religion. Therefore, lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon; indeed, in a brief explanation there is attractiveness." (HR Muslim and Ahmad)
In Islam itself, it is recommended that sermons should not be too long so that the congregation does not get bored.
Therefore, it is important for the Khutbah speakers to carefully pay attention to what is conveyed, so that it can reach the listeners or congregation, and can be understood and practiced according to the requirements.
There are various types of Friday sermons, but this time The Shiro Coprgin discusses one topic with the title "Using Life Time for Good and Worship"
Indeed, in Islam itself, free time is highly valued as one of the great blessings that people often neglect. Islam strongly emphasizes the importance of utilizing free time for good deeds and worship. This is reflected in various verses of the Quran and hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad.
Khutbah I
All praise is due to Allah. All praise is due to Allah, who gathers us in the gathering. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Almighty King. And I bear witness that our beloved and our Prophet Muhammad is His servant and messenger, the master of mankind and all beings. O Allah, bestow mercy, peace, and blessings upon our Master Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions. After that, O those present, fear Allah with true reverence, and do not die except as Muslims. Allah, the Exalted, said in the Great Quran: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By the time. Indeed, mankind is in loss, except those who believe and do good deeds, and advise each other to truth, and advise each other to patience.
Congregants of Jumat, may Allah have mercy on you,
Let us increase our piety towards Allah with true piety. Piety is not merely words spoken from the tongue, but must be evident in actual deeds and actions. One form of piety is how we utilize the life time given by Allah as best as possible.
Allah SWT said in the Quran:
By the time, indeed, mankind is in loss, except those who believe and do good deeds, and advise each other to truth, and advise each other to patience.
Meaning: By time. Indeed, mankind is surely in loss. Except those who believe and do good deeds, and advise each other in truth and patience (QS Al-‘Asr: 1-3).
Time is a great blessing often forgotten. The Prophet ﷺ reminded us in a hadith:
Health and leisure are two things many people are obsessed with.
It means: Two blessings that many people are deceived by: health and free time (HR Bukhari).
We often take time for granted. Yet, time is part of our lives. Every passing second will never come again. How unfortunate it is if time is spent on trivial matters, sins, or even neglecting our religious duties towards Allah.
Respected Friday congregation, pay attention to how the companions and pious predecessors highly valued time. They divided their time for worship, learning, working, and helping others. Their lives were full of benefits, because they realized that the world is merely a field for doing good deeds, and time is an opportunity that comes only once.
Imam Hasan Al-Bashri rahimahullah said: "O son of Adam, indeed you are nothing but a collection of days. Every time a day passes, a part of you is lost."
Therefore, let us not wait until we are old to worship. Do not wait for the opportunity to do good. Because death does not wait for age, and fate does not wait for preparedness. Use your youth for worship, your health for prostration, and your free time to seek the pleasure of Allah.
The Friday congregation, may Allah have mercy on you, know that there are several ways to use our time in the service of goodness and worship:
1. Get used to praying on time. Prayer is the pillar of religion. Do not delay. Make it the main reminder in our daily lives.
2. Reading and reflecting on the Quran. Set aside daily time for the Quran, even if only a few verses. This is our spiritual nourishment and guide in life.
3. Remember Allah and make supplication. Use the free time between activities to increase remembrance of Allah. Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar - all of these are easy on the tongue but heavy in the scale of deeds.
4. Work with a sincere intention. Even worldly activities such as working and studying can become acts of worship if intended to seek the pleasure of Allah, support the family, and benefit others.
5. Helping others and doing good. Make our time beneficial for others. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
The best of people are those who are most beneficial to people.
It means: The best of people is the one who is most beneficial to others (HR Thabrani).
6. Avoiding futile actions Be vigilant against excessive entertainment, gossip, unlimited gaming, or social media that wastes time without benefit. Do not let our time be wasted on things that do not enhance faith and good deeds.
Respected congregation,
Let us fill the remaining years of our lives with goodness. Because what will save us in the hereafter is not a long life, but good deeds done in a short time. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best of people are those who have a long life and good deeds" (HR Tirmidzi).
Let us reflect. How much time have we wasted? And how many opportunities for worship have we neglected? Do not let regret come when death approaches.
May Allah bless me and you in the Great Quran, and benefit me and you with its verses and the wise reminders. Accept my recitation and yours, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. And I seek forgiveness from the Almighty Allah for me and for you, and for all the Muslim men and women. O victory of those who seek forgiveness, and O salvation of the repentant.
Second Sermon
All praise is due to Allah, who has bestowed upon us the blessing of faith and Islam. Peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad, the best of all creatures. And peace be upon his family and noble companions. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the King, the Holy, the Peace, and I bear witness that our Master and beloved Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the one of honor and respect. After that, O people, I advise you and myself to fear Allah, for the pious have indeed succeeded. Allah, the Exalted, said: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and greet him with a respectful greeting." O Allah, bestow blessings and peace upon our Master Muhammad, and upon the family of our Master Muhammad, as You have bestowed blessings upon our Master Abraham, and bless our Master Muhammad and his family, as You have blessed our Master Abraham and his family in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Majestic. O Allah, be pleased with the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and with all the companions of Your Prophet, and with those who follow them, and those who follow the followers, until the Day of Judgment. O Allah, forgive the Muslim men and women, the believing men and women. O Allah, remove from us inflation, disease, famine, calamities, and trials, which none can remove except You, from our country Indonesia especially, and from all other Muslim countries in general, O Lord of the worlds. Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire. O servants of Allah, indeed Allah commands justice and kindness, and He forbids indecency and wrongdoing. He advises you, perhaps you will remember. So remember Allah, the Almighty, and He will remember you. And be grateful to Him for His favors, and He will increase them for you. And the remembrance of Allah is the greatest.
