jatim. The Shiro Copr , MALANG - A group of students from various study programs at Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) have created an educational robot to address children's addiction to electronic devices.
The robot named CubeBot was specifically designed to divert children's attention from their phones while stimulating their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development in a fun way.
"Dependence on electronic devices has become a serious issue among elementary school children, especially in grades 4 to 6. We offer creative solutions through educational robot innovations called CubeBot," said Muhamad Reza Pahlawan, a team member, on Tuesday (8/12).
Having a background in Electrical Engineering, Reza formed a multidisciplinary team with two of his colleagues from the same department, plus one Accounting student and one PGSD student.
This collaboration ensures the project runs smoothly from a technical, financial, and pedagogical perspective. CubeBot is child-friendly thanks to the carefully designed combination of hardware and software.
Not just a robot, CubeBot builds an interactive learning ecosystem. This robot is programmed using MBlock application with visual drag and drop blocks, making it easy for children to understand the basic logic of programming.
"So, for children it's easier to use and program this robot. They don't directly learn complicated coding, but start with fun things through CubeBot and MBlock," said Reza.
CubeBot has been used in several schools, such as SD Muhammadiyah 8 Malang and SD Muhammadiyah 4 Malang, and is planned to be offered as an extracurricular activity in other schools.
The advantage of CubeBot lies in its modular nature. A set of robots can be assembled into three different models: line follower (following a line), transporter (moving items), and obstacle avoider (avoiding obstacles).
"A single robot can be several models. So, children can learn more. This feature is the main advantage of CubeBot compared to other similar products. Because, as far as I know, others are only one robot for one model," said Reza.
Through the process of assembling and programming robots, CubeBot trains children's critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity skills.
Reza hopes this innovation can reach more schools, especially in Malang and East Java.
"Through CubeBot, we prove that technology can be a fun and beneficial educational tool," he concluded. (antara/mcr12/jpnn)
