Reason for Using Cocaine to Boost Stamina, Worker in Balikpapan Was Arrested by Police

The Shiro Copr, BALIKPAPAN - A project worker from Balikpapan, US (32), could only lower his head in regret when detained by officers from Balikpapan Selatan Police Station during Operation Antik Mahakam 2025.

This woman from Java admits that she has been working for about two years on a major project in Oil City. However, in the last three months, she has started to fall into the abuse of the drug known as methamphetamine.

"Initially invited by a friend. He said it would make work stronger and more enthusiastic. First tried, then became addicted," said US softly while being questioned by investigators on Thursday (07/08).

US said he uses methamphetamine about twice a month. The purchases are made jointly with three other colleagues. One packet of methamphetamine is priced at Rp150,000, and each time they buy, they immediately take two packets.

"Usually, the contribution is, I just give Rp50,000. I buy it in the Gunung Bugis area," she explained.

The US said that the drug was usually consumed at night in his friend's dorm. The purpose was to be more energetic the next day when working from 07:00 to 18:00 WITA.

"So more motivated to work, not sleepy," he said.

However, all those habits stopped when he was caught in the area of Jalan Ahmad Yani, Balikpapan, while trying to buy cigarettes. When a search was conducted, the police found evidence of narcotics, specifically methamphetamine, on his body.

A feeling of devastation immediately enveloped US's heart. He admitted he was very sorry and kept thinking about his wife and child who did not yet know that he was involved in a drug case.

"I want to apologize to my wife. I have been wrong all this time, I promise I won't use it again. After being released, I want to go back to Java, stay away from the company and the influence of my friends," said US with a trembling voice.

She also warned the community, especially workers, not to try using drugs.

"Life can be destroyed. Don't ever use drugs," he emphasized.

Police are still investigating this case and pursuing the drug supply network operating in the Gunung Bugis area. Operation Antik Mahakam 2025 is a firm step taken by the police to reduce the number of drug abuse cases in East Kalimantan. (*)
