Omniscient Reader: The Prophet Synopsis
Omniscient Reader: The Prophet begins with the story of Kim Dok Ja, an ordinary office worker whose life never attracted attention. However, there was one thing that set her apart.
I am the only devoted reader of the fantasy web novel titled "Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World," which has just concluded its run after ten years. No one else followed the story until the end. Only Kim Dok Ja knows the entire tale, including how the novel concluded.
However, something unexpected happened. The real world suddenly changed completely, becoming like the setting of a novel she had only ever read.
The world has turned into ruins of destruction. Disaster and devastation blanket everything. Reality is shattered, and Kim Dok Ja must face a world she has only known through words.
He then meets the main character of the novel, Yoo Jung Hyeok. A great fighter, cold, and handsome. Yoo Jung Hyeok has a unique ability, which is to come back to life after dying.
I am destined to save the world. Even Kim Dok Ja has no other choice but to work with this fictional character in order to survive and change the fate of the world.
Their journey was not easy. Both joined a group consisting of strong characters, including Yoo Sang Ah, Lee Hyeon Seong, Kong Pil Du, Jung Hui Won, Han Myeong O, and Lee Ji Hye.
They must overcome various obstacles. They also have to unravel the secrets of this cruel new world. The future depends on them. The destiny written in the novel must be changed.
Quoted from Mydramalist on Thursday (6/19/2025), this film is adapted from the popular web novel "Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint" by Sing N Song. During the adaptation process, director Kim Byung Woo revealed that the biggest challenge was translating the world of the novel into a two-hour feature film format.
I emphasize the importance of bringing elements of reality into a story full of fantasy. According to him, the fusion between reality and the fictional world is the main strength of this tale. Not just action and visual effects, but how the audience can feel close to the characters and their dilemmas.
Ahn Hyo Seop plays Kim Dok Ja. He admits to being interested in the philosophy of the story, which emphasizes that humans cannot live alone. He strives to portray Kim Dok Ja's emotional side truthfully.
I want to show how this character wants to change the ending of the story into something better for everyone. Meanwhile, Yoo Jung Hyeok is played by Lee Min Ho.
In the interview, he admitted feeling challenged because he had to portray a character that was described as "cool" from the very beginning. He felt he could only merge with this character about 10 percent. However, he believes the story is important, especially in today's increasingly individualistic society.
Chae Soo Bin plays the role of Yoo Sang Ah, one of the most realistic characters in the group. She is known for being cautious and trying to restrain the pace of the group when everyone is rushing. She acts as a balancer.
Even though the role was challenging, especially when having to act in front of a blue screen, teamwork made it feel lighter. Other characters like Lee Hyun Seong (played by Shin Seung Ho), Jung Hee Won (played by Nana), and Lee Ji Hye (played by Ji Soo) also have important roles. Each has unique strengths.
They contribute to building a complex group atmosphere. In fact, even the change in Lee Ji Hye's character weapon from a sword to a pistol was a creative decision to differentiate each character's fighting style.
Director Kim emphasized that the film is designed to make the audience feel like they are part of the story. He wants the audience to ask themselves, "What would I do if I were in that position?" Ahn Hyo Seop also hopes that the film will satisfy fans and provide a thought-provoking experience.
