According to Prof. Sofian, the former President of RI never completed his S1 in the Faculty of Forestry.

Jokowi only managed to study in the first and second years, but his grades did not meet the requirements to continue to S1.

However, after some time, Prof Sofian retracted his statement.

On Thursday (7/17/2025), Prof. Sofian suddenly retracted all his statements regarding Jokowi's lectures, including the allegation that Jokowi does not have a S1 degree from UGM.

"It seems to be in line with my prediction this morning. Wait for the next developments," wrote Said Didu on his X page, as quoted by Warta Kota on Thursday.

Said Didu admitted to having information regarding the reason why Prof Sofian retracted his statement.

However, he has not yet been willing to reveal it.

"I have information behind this statement. It's time everything will be revealed," he said.

Said Didu mentioned there were attempts to silence former Rector of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Prof. Sofian Effendi, who also spoke about the controversy regarding the diploma of Indonesia's 7th President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi.

Previously, Prof. Sofian explained that Jokowi probably does not have a S1 degree from UGM because his thesis was never defended.

"Ven recently received information from Yogyakarta that there is an attempt to 'silence' Prof. Sofian Effendi because he opened the case of Jokowi's diploma," said Said Didu, quoted from his X page on Thursday (17/7/2026).

Regarding that, Said Didu asked the people in Yogyakarta to protect the professor.

"Please friends in Jogya take care of him, and let us all give support to Prof Sofian Effendi," he said.

Statement on Jokowi's Diploma

Former Rector of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) during 2002–2007, Prof. Dr. Sofian Effendi, retracted all his statements regarding President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) bachelor's degree, which he had previously made in a video on a YouTube channel.

In a written statement released today, Prof. Sofian explained that he withdraws all statements in the video aired on the Langkah Update channel titled "Former UGM Rector Speaks Out! Prof. Sofian Effendy, Rector 2002–2007! Jokowi's Diploma & UGM Campus!" on July 16, 2025.

"Saya mencabut semua pernyataan saya dalam video tersebut dan memohon agar wawancara di saluran YouTube itu ditarik dari peredaran," kata Sofian.

Furthermore, he stated that the official statement from UGM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ova Emilia on October 11, 2022, regarding Jokowi's diploma is in accordance with the available evidence at the university.

Prof. Sofian also expressed an open apology to all parties mentioned in the interview.

"I sincerely apologize to all the parties mentioned in that interview," he said.

He concluded his statement with the hope that the discussion regarding Jokowi's diploma authenticity can be ended as soon as possible.

Regarding the information spread from a live streaming on the YouTube channel Langkah Update with the title 'Former UGM Rector Speaks Out! Prof. Sofian Effendy, Rector 2002–2007! Jokowi's Diploma & UGM Campus!' on July 16, 2025, about the diploma in the name of Mr. Joko Widodo, I state that the statement by UGM Rector Prof. Dr. Ova Emilia dated October 11, 2022, is indeed in accordance with the available evidence at the university.

Regarding that, I withdraw all my statements in the video and request that the interview on that YouTube channel be removed from circulation.

I sincerely apologize to all parties mentioned in that interview.

UGM States That Jokowi's Diploma Is Authentic

The representative of the Faculty of Forestry at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) once spoke about the authenticity of Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) thesis and diploma.

In a press release uploaded on UGM's official website on Friday (3/21/2025), the Dean of UGM's Forestry Faculty, Sigit Sunarta, confirmed that Jokowi once studied and graduated from UGM's Forestry Faculty.

"It is known that Joko Widodo's diploma and thesis are genuine. He once studied here, his classmates know him well, he was active in student activities (Silvagama), he is recorded to have taken many courses, completed his thesis, therefore his diploma was issued by UGM is genuine," said Sigit, as reported on the official UGM website, quoted on Tuesday (15/4/2025).

She also regretted the existence of misleading information regarding the type of font or Times New Roman in Jokowi's thesis and diploma, which was said not to exist at the time of the graduation of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Strictly speaking, the Times New Roman font was widely used by students at that time.

Next, the cover and approval sheet of Jokowi's thesis were printed at a print shop, but the entire 91-page text of the thesis still used a typewriter.

"There are many student theses that use covers and approval sheets printed by a printing machine," said Sigit.
