Muslim Youth of North Sulawesi Demand the Provincial Police Chief to Take Strict Action Against Tarkam Offenders, Gilang: Shoot on Sight if Necessary!

The Shiro Copr - Clashes between villages in North Sulawesi (tarkam) are increasingly disturbing the community. Not only do they disrupt public order, but this horizontal conflict is considered a serious threat to the economic, social, and regional security stability.

Gilang Ramadhan Hiola, Chairman of the Muslim Youth of Indonesia, North Sulawesi Region, called on law enforcement agencies, especially the North Sulawesi Police Chief, to take strict actions against the perpetrators of tarkam, even without hesitation to take measured actions on the field, such as shooting on the spot.

"This is no longer just teenage mischief. It has become a network of violence threatening the future of North Sulawesi. If necessary, shoot on the spot to set an example," said Gilang on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

According to Gilang, the subsequent effects of gang fights cannot be taken lightly. Gang fights between villages in North Sulawesi have caused losses and fear spreading among the community.

She divided it into three important aspects. First, she said, the economic impact, where SME activities are disrupted, declining investment interest, and increasing security costs.

The second aspect that is harmed, furthermore, is the social impact. "The harmony between communities is broken, psychological trauma among children and teenagers, and access to education is disrupted," he continued.

Gilang also mentioned that the prevalence of tarkam has caused the decline of the authority of law enforcement, the emergence of threats from rogue militias that act as judges on their own, and the opportunity for the expansion of horizontal conflicts is increasingly open.

Muslim Youth Ask Police to Take Strict Action Against Brawlers

Gilang emphasized that the Muslim Youth of Sulut fully support the firm measures taken by the police authorities. He presented several recommendations, as follows:

  • Not giving negotiation space to the perpetrators of violence.
  • Strict measures up to shooting on the spot for perpetrators who endanger the community or authorities.
  • Strengthen the preventive approach in schools to prevent the regeneration of perpetrators of child marriage.

Hope Sulut Again Safe and Peaceful

North Sulawesi is a province with rich tourism and economic potential. However, conflicts such as village fights damage the image of peace and endanger the younger generation.

Muslim youths emphasize their support for the enforcement of strict and measured laws.

"We no longer want to see the blood of our people spilled due to senseless brutality. Sulawesi needs peace, not hatred," emphasized Gilang Ramadhan Hiola. ***
