The Shiro Copr, SENTANI - The Tim Penggerak Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (TP-PKK) of Jayapura Regency is committed to reducing the incidence of stunting and malnutrition.

This is conveyed by the Chairperson of the PKK of Jayapura Regency, Dewi Sartika S. Wonda, after distributing eggs, rice, fish meatballs, food ingredients, and stoves to parents of children with stunting at Airu Health Center, Tuesday (29/7/2025).

TP-PKK's visit to Airu District as part of the Jayapura Regent's working visit.

Dewi revealed together with the Health Office and the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (DP3A) to ensure the presence of health workers in every community health center and posyandu.

"We are indeed committed to checking [stunting] in all districts," he said, accompanied by the First Vice Chairman of the Jayapura Regency PKK, Anitha Hening Yocku.

Dewi revealed that there is a discrepancy in the stunting data reported by the community health centers due to internet network constraints.

"There is a reporting discrepancy, because the update uses the internet, this internet access has become an issue," he said.

At that time, Dewi also advised parents to give their children breast milk, children should not eat instant noodles, and to maintain the living environment.

Naomi Leni Yabansabra, head of Airu Health Center, said there are 20 stunted children in Airu District. This year, Airu Health Center has started interventions for stunting.

Naomi and the health workers in the area are hindered because the residents often go to the garden for a long time.

"They [residents] go to the garden for weeks, we can't meet the children and parents, because the garden is far and we have to cross by speed," he said.

Meanwhile, two health posts (pustu) in Muara Nawa and Aurina have not yet started operating due to the absence of health workers.

Meanwhile, the Airu Health Center is supported by one doctor, 15 nurses, and one person in the nutrition section. However, the doctor there has resigned at the end of June.

Naomi said that the area where she works requires additional health workers, considering the access and geographical conditions of Airu District are quite difficult to reach.

For example, the longest journey to Kampung Aurina takes up to five or six hours by motorboat (speed).

"We really need health workers." (*)
