The Shiro Copr – Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov is urging his residents to stay away from the coastline.
This follows a tsunami wave of 3-4 meters recorded in Yelizovo District, Kamchatka.
This tsunami was caused by an earthquake of magnitude 8.7 that shook Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Wednesday (7/30/2025) morning local time.
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is a city as well as the administrative, industrial, educational, and cultural center of Kamchatka Krai, Russia.

Next, the word "Kamchatsky" was added to the official name since 1924.
Petropavlovsk is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
It is bordered by the Okhotsk Sea to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east.
Reported by CNN, today's earthquake in Petropavlovsk, Russia, is at a depth of 19 kilometers.
The earthquake today is the strongest since 2011, after a magnitude 9.0 earthquake shook Japan.
This Russian earthquake caused a tsunami threat warning in the Kamchatka Peninsula.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake previously occurred in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on March 25, 2020.
This earthquake is the largest earthquake to occur in Russia since the 2013 Okhotsk Sea earthquake.
In addition to Russia, tsunami warnings were issued by the Japanese Meteorological Agency.
Waves as high as one meter are expected to reach Japan between 10:00 and 11:00 local time.
"Based on the initial earthquake parameters, widespread dangerous tsunami waves are likely to occur," explained the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
Similar warnings also apply to the Hawaiian Islands up to some of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska.
