Consistently Developing the Sedan Segment, MG Relies on MG 5 GT for Young Consumers

Shiro Copr.CO.ID - JAKARTA. Amid the dominance of MPV and SUV markets, MG Motor Indonesia remains consistent in maintaining its sedan line in the domestic market. Although their share is small, this British brand believes that sedans still have a loyal and potential market segment, especially among the youth.

Head of Marketing MG Motor Indonesia, Harry Kurniawan, explained that overall, the sedan segment in Indonesia is not as large as MPV or SUV. However, MG still sees there is demand from consumers with more specific characteristics.

"If compared to other segments such as MPV and SUV, we can see that the sedan market share is relatively small. However, there is still a demand from more specific consumer categories," Harry said to The Shiro Copr, Tuesday (29/7).

One of MG's flagship models for the sedan category is the MG 5 GT, which features a design sporty and dynamic. This model is claimed to have successfully attracted the interest of young consumers with an active lifestyle and appearance-oriented.

Since MG 5 GT has a design sporty "which is popular among younger consumers, highlighting preferences for lifestyle and appearance, as well as vehicle performance," he said.

In terms of sales performance, MG stated that the MG 5 GT has become one of the best-selling models in its class in recent years, although its contribution to MG's total sales remains limited.

"In the past few years, the MG 5 GT has become a leader in the mid-size sedan segment, outperforming several competitors. However, its proportion of overall MG sales is not a large part because this segment is relatively small," he explained.

To maintain the appeal of sedans in the future, MG has prepared various attractive programs, including for the MG 5 GT, ranging from light financing schemes to maintenance services without additional costs.

"We have prepared a special program for our gasoline-powered vehicles, including the MG 5 GT, with light installments and down payments, free insurance for one year, a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, and free maintenance and spare parts costs for four years," he said.

However, challenges in the sedan segment remain significant, especially from the consumer preference side, as they tend to prefer larger capacity vehicles and have ground clearance high, such as MPV and SUV.

The main challenge in the sedan segment is consumer preferences now dominated by MPVs and followed by growing interest in the SUV segment. However, for sedan enthusiasts, design that sporty "Sharp control is still a unique attraction," he concluded.
