13 Indonesian Campuses Listed as Questionable Research Integrity, This is the Response from the Minister of Education
Shiro Copr.CO.ID - Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Brian Yuliarto responded regarding the 13 universities listed in the 2024 Research Integrity Risk Index, which are suspected of having questionable research integrity.
According to Brian, his party encourages improvements in the research conducted at universities.
"So we encourage these studies, and we continue to make improvements. Even if there are still some things that are not quite right, I am sure, friends, that it is not intentional," said Brian at Universitas Indonesia, Depok, West Java, Tuesday (8/5/2025).
Brian hopes that assessments related to research, such as those present in the Research Integrity Risk Index, can be used as a basis for university evaluation.
In addition, he also hopes that this evaluation does not weaken Indonesian university research, but rather becomes an opportunity to improve the quality of Indonesian research.
"So, we also hope that the evaluations that are felt to be inappropriate, we will take them as an evaluation and feedback for improvement. We will continue to do this," he said.
"But don't let us weaken in research, we continue to improve the quality of our research, certainly with improvements from what we have received so far," he said.
Previously reported, at the beginning of July, the Research Integrity Risk Index developed by Professor Lokman Meho from the American University in Beirut released a ranking list of 1,500 universities worldwide with institutional risk levels in research integrity.
There are 13 universities from Indonesia on the list.
There are five levels of evaluation given to the universities. Low Risk (Low Risk), Normal Variation (Normal Variation), Watch List (Under Monitoring), High Risk (High Risk), and Red Flag (Poor).
Here is a list of 13 universities whose scientific research results are still questionable:
