Saudi Prince Al-Waleed Dies After 20 Years in a Coma

The Shiro Copr, JAKARTA — Grief has enveloped the Saudi royal family, which announced the passing of " Prince "Sleep", Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, at the age of 36.

She spent 20 years in a coma after a tragic car accident in 2005, which left her unconscious since then.

Prince Khalid Bin Talal expressed his sorrow over the passing of his son on X (formerly Twitter), writing the verse: "O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, content and pleasing [to Him]. Enter among My servants [the righteous] and enter My Paradise."

Prince Khalid announced that the funeral prayer will be held on Sunday, with the mourning ceremony taking place over three days on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

After the news of the prince's passing spread, social media was filled with condolences. Social media users shared prayers and messages of sympathy to the family, praying that God would have mercy on the late prince.

For years, the emotional story of "The Sleeping Prince" has continued to captivate the public, especially amid recurring rumors about his possible death or signs of recovery.

The late prince was involved in a tragic car accident in 2005 when he was still studying at a military school. The incident put him into a coma and earned him the nickname "Sleeping Prince."

Although various intensive medical efforts have been made, including visits from international doctors, an American specialist team, and a Spanish neurologist, his condition has never significantly improved.

However, his family never lost hope; his father often shared photos next to his son's bed to reassure his loved ones and supporters about his son's condition.

In 2019, there were moments that gave hope. Rima binti Talal's daughter uploaded a video showing the prince could move his head from side to side.

In April this year, Prince Al-Walid's name once again became a trend on various social media platforms after Princess Rima uploaded another photo of him, reviving the story about faith, patience, and perseverance.

Princess Rima binti Talal, sister of Prince Khalid, shared a touching message on her official account.

"Beloved Al-Waleed bin Khalid, twenty-one years old, and you are always present in our hearts and in the prayers of your beloved ones. O Allah, heal your servant Al-Waleed - only You know his weakness, O Lord of the heavens and the earth," he wrote.

Several months ago, Prince Khalid announced medical developments after doctors noticed swelling in the prince's lymph nodes on both sides, prompting further examinations.

In 2020, after 15 years in a coma, Al-Waleed also once moved his hand, a moment that again sparked hope among his family and supporters.

Since falling into a coma in 2005, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal has become a symbol of patience and deep faith in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Two decades have passed, yet his story remains alive in the hearts of the Saudi people.
