Shiro Copr.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Member of the VII Commission of the DPR RI, Bambang Haryo Soekartono (BHS) visited Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java on Friday (18/7/2025). During the visit, BHS expressed his concern over the long traffic jam caused by the suspension of operations of 15 landing craft tank (LCT) units at LCM Wharf.
"I emphasize that we need to speed up the resumption of operations of the 15 existing LCT ships at Plensengan Wharf, as they are heavy equipment carriers that got stuck in traffic, which certainly also affects the smoothness of transportation for industry and tourism, so it is hoped that the economic growth in the Bali region will not be disturbed," said BHS in Jakarta on Monday (21/7/2025).
The alumni of the ITS Marine Engineering Department in Surabaya target that all heavy equipment and vehicles stuck in traffic can be lifted entirely the day after the inspection. Moreover, the 15 LCT ships already have a certificate of perfection after the ships were dry-docked and underwent several times of inspection. rampcheck in the Lebaran transportation.
Every time before the departure, the LCT ship has already obtained a sailing permit, thus being seaworthy and operational. BHS hopes that the process of stopping the ship should be resumed as soon as possible. In addition, he urges the acceleration of adjusting the ferry tariff, which is currently lagging, in order to support the fulfillment of standardization costs for safety and minimum service.
BHS emphasizes that the importance of ticketing for vehicle passengers and drivers according to KM No. 58 of 2003 is not implemented and should be immediately revised with a new regulation requiring vehicle passengers and drivers to have tickets. The purpose is to prevent manifest confusion, as seen in the incident of the KMP Tanu Pratama Jaya sinking in the Bali Strait a while ago.
In addition, BHS reminded that adjusting tariffs is important to support the operations of shipping companies in meeting standardization of safety, security, and comfort. "Plus the minimum service for ferries, which are currently lagging more than 38 percent according to calculations by the government, YLKI, and the Gapasdap association in 2019," said a member of the Gerindra faction of the DPR.
According to BHS, conducting an analysis of an accident does not have to be done only by the operator, but by all stakeholders in total, starting from the regulator (government), facilitator (maritime), operator, and consumer. This is because all parties can contribute to the safety of the journey.
"Furthermore, the rescue elements (KPLP Coast Guard, Basarnas, Bakamla, Polair) need to be intensified now, by standardizing the quality of rescue, as the response time must not exceed 25 minutes, as stipulated in Law No. 29 of 2014 on Rescue and Search applicable to Basarnas," said BHS.
In addition, BHS also appreciated the fishermen who contributed greatly to saving the passengers of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya. He noted that nearly 95 percent of the rescues were carried out by fishermen who were at sea at that time. "I give appreciation and recognition to 16 fishermen who found 26 victims, both those who survived and those who died," said BHS.
Previously, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ketapang Branch ensured that the ferry service on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route has returned to normal, and the main road around the port has also been cleared since Saturday. Shelvy Arifin, Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, stated that queues of public and private vehicles were no longer visible since Saturday around 08:00 WIB.
