Indonesia Wins 2025 SEA V League Leg 2, After Defeating Thailand in a Dramatic 5-Set Match at Jakarta Velodrome

The Shiro Copr Indonesian Men's Volleyball Team successfully made a sweet history at home, after defeating Thailand in the final match of the SEA V League 2025 second leg.

Competing at Jakarta International Velodrome, Sunday (20/7), Merah Putih won dramatically 3-2 (27-29, 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13) and secured their position as champions.

This victory feels even more special because Indonesia managed to break Thailand's dominance, which had ruled the last three editions, legs 1 and 2 in 2024, and leg 1 in 2025.

With this result, Indonesia now has three SEA V League titles, matching Thailand's achievement in the last six editions of the tournament.

The match against Thailand can indeed be called an ideal final. Both teams played aggressively from the start of the first set, with unavoidable point exchanges.

Indonesia was briefly leading 22-19, but Thailand caught up and forced a deuce. Drama occurred when Thailand's challenge reversed the score to 23-24, and finally they won the first set 29-27 after a 41-minute battle.

However, Indonesia bounced back in the second set. Playing aggressively from the start, Rivan Nurmulki, Boy Arnez Arabi, and his teammates immediately scored 3-0.

Thailand, which had started to lose its rhythm, was at a loss, falling far behind 16-8. Indonesia even created 10 set points, and finally closed the second set with a decisive score of 25-15.

The third set became a crucial turning point. Although they were briefly behind 5-7, Indonesia managed to turn the situation around and maintain a narrow lead. Thailand continued to apply pressure until the score was tied at 21-21.

But Indonesia remained calm, and through the solid block by Rivan and Tedi Oka, they closed the third set 25-23. This victory automatically secured Indonesia the championship title, as their point total could no longer be caught by other teams.

Although the title was already in their hands, the match continued to the fourth set. Thailand did not give up easily, managing to win this set 25-22 and forcing the match into a deciding set.

The fifth set was intense and tense. Both teams exchanged attacks, even tied at 4-4. However, Farhan Halim's team showed mental toughness and managed to create a gap of 8-4.

Although Thailand once narrowed the deficit to just one point at 13-12, Indonesia was still able to maintain its lead and seal the victory with a score of 15-13.

With the victory over Thailand, the Indonesia Men's Volleyball Team emerged as champions of the SEA V League 2025 Leg 2 with 10 points from four wins. Meanwhile, Thailand had to be satisfied with the third position in the final standings with 7 points, losing to Vietnam, who collected 8 points.

This title also marks the success of coach Jeff Jiang Jie in leading his students to perform consistently with high fighting spirit throughout the tournament.

The Garuda squad performed strongly, not only technically but also mentally, especially when facing great pressure in the decisive match against their main rival.

With this result, the competitive atmosphere of Southeast Asian volleyball is certainly getting hotter, and the Indonesian national team now stands on par with Thailand as a major power in the region.
