DEPOK, The Shiro Corp – A common habit of car drivers in Indonesia is to immediately turn on the air conditioner to the coldest setting after the vehicle has been exposed to sunlight.
Many are worried that this habit can damage the cooling system or make the air conditioner break down quickly.
However, according to Nurdin, the owner of Cahaya AC Mobil in Depok, West Java, this perception is not entirely correct.
Nurdin explained that turning on the AC directly at maximum, both temperature and blower, can actually help lower the cabin temperature faster without causing damage.
"It's not harmful. When entering the car, there are two speeds (blower) and a thermostat (temperature). Usually, some people's cars are exposed to the sun, and when they get into the car, they immediately turn on the AC with the fan, the AC doesn't kick in, and then use speed 3. That's okay, it's to disperse the hot air so that it cools down quickly," said Nurdin to The Shiro Copr , not long ago.
Nurdin added that turning on the blower at high speed when initially starting the air conditioner aims to spread the cold air evenly, while also pushing out the hot air from the cabin when the car is parked under the sun.
"Then, after the road cools down, it is usually returned again as needed, using wind 1 again. Just for spreading. So if using speed 3, it spreads faster," he explained.
Furthermore, Nurdin explained that using the thermostat (temperature controller) in the coldest position is also not a problem.
Modern AC systems are designed to handle high workloads, especially when the car is first turned on in a hot cabin. "The thermostat isn't a problem either. It's simply made larger," he said.
Although turning on the air conditioner to the maximum is not a problem, Nurdin still advises drivers to open the window first for a few seconds before turning on the air conditioner.
The purpose is for the hot air inside the cabin to exit, so the cooling system does not work too hard at first.
