Shiro Copr, Pekanbaru - Although the heat points are rising and fog is beginning to cover some areas in Riau Province, flight activities at Sultan Syarif Kasim (SSK) II Airport in Pekanbaru are still operating normally.
The airport authority stated that there are no disruptions in departure and arrival schedules due to the weather conditions.
General Manager Bandara SSK II Pekanbaru, Radityo Ari Purwoko, said that until Monday (7/21/2025) morning, visibility on the runway was still within safe limits for flights.
"Up to now, there has been no flight at SSK II that has been disturbed or affected by the smoke haze," he said.
She explained that although some areas in Riau reported an increase in hotspots and smoke haze has begun to appear, the particulate concentration around the airport is still in the moderate category.
This allows flight operations to continue as usual.
"The conditions in Pekanbaru are generally safe for flight activities. We continue to coordinate with BMKG and relevant agencies to monitor weather developments and visibility at all times," added Radityo.
For the visibility distance this morning, this man who is commonly called Oki said it is 7.0 km, which is still safe for flying.
SSK II Airport has also deployed special procedures in case of reduced visibility due to smoke at any time.
This protocol includes schedule adjustments, route changes, and flight delays if necessary.
Meanwhile, BMKG reported that the Riau region is experiencing a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius today with minimal potential for rain.
On the other hand, the number of hotspots in Riau region also experienced a significant surge, reaching more than 500 points, from 1,292 heat points in Sumatra.
Riau is still the largest contributor with a total of 582 hotspots, or almost half of the total number of hotspots in Sumatra.
This information was conveyed by the On Duty Forecaster from BMKG Pekanbaru, Deby C, who stated that according to the latest satellite image data, Rokan Hilir became the area with the highest hotspots, namely 244 points.
"Then Rokan Hulu had 192 points and Kampar 40 points. Other hotspots were recorded in Pelalawan (30), Bengkalis (21), Dumai (22), Siak (15), Meranti (9), Kuantan Singingi (7), and even in Pekanbaru with 2 points," said Deby.
This condition again indicates the high potential for forest and land fires (karhutla) in Riau, especially in coastal and northern areas.
BMKG urges the community not to carry out open burning activities and to remain alert to the danger of smoke.
In addition to Riau, North Sumatra is in second place after Riau with 236 hotspots, followed by South Sumatra 125, West Sumatra 122, Jambi 96, Bangka Belitung 79, Bengkulu 27, Lampung 20, and Riau Archipelago 5 hotspots.
