The Shiro Copr, JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Indonesian Youth Organization, Raden Igun Wicaksono, stated that about 50,000 online drivers and couriers from various platforms participated in the action titled "App Victims: Action 217."
Besides holding a demonstration in the Merdeka Palace area and South Silang Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta on Monday (21/7/2025), the demonstrators also carried out a mass off-bid, meaning they refused to accept orders all day today.
"Korban applicants as the implementers of Action 217 urge the public users of ojol, online taxis, and online couriers to prepare and adjust their transportation needs on Monday, July 21, 2025, because most online drivers and couriers will go on a mass strike," he explained.
According to Igun, this action is the accumulation of disappointment towards the Ministry of Transportation and President Prabowo Subianto, who are considered not to have given a firm response to the issue of online transportation.
They also assess that the policy of increasing ride-hailing fees by up to 15 percent is counterproductive to drivers' welfare.
Thousands of online drivers (ojol), online taxi drivers, and couriers from various platforms once again held a large-scale demonstration today, Monday (21/7/2025).
The action titled "Victims of the Approvers: Action 217" was held in the area of the Presidential Palace and South Gate of the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta.
Igun Wicaksono explained that this action was taken because there has been no concrete follow-up from the government regarding the demands previously submitted during the May 20, 2025 demonstration and the Hearing (RDP) with DPR RI Commission V.
"Since there has been no concrete follow-up from the government agency regulating online transportation regulations, two months have passed since online transportation drivers carried out a large peaceful demonstration on May 20, 2025, and the hearing (RDP) with DPR RI Commission V," said Igun in a written statement on Sunday (20/7/2025).
Deploy 1,632 personnel
A total of 1,632 joint personnel from Polda Metro Jaya, Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat, and the subordinate police stations were deployed to secure the demonstration by online taxi drivers (ojol) in the Silang Selatan Monas area, Jakarta Pusat, on Monday (21/7/2025).
Kapolres Metro Jakarta Pusat, Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro, urged the demonstration participants to express their opinions in an orderly manner and not to commit anarchist actions.
"we ask the brothers who will hold a demonstration to express their opinions politely, not provoke, and not oppose the officers. Do not burn tires or damage public facilities," said Susatyo in a statement received by Kompas.com on Monday.
They emphasized that the security personnel are not equipped with firearms and will prioritize a humanistic approach.
"Officers will serve our brothers and sisters in a humane and professional manner, yet remain firm in carrying out their duties. We are here to ensure everything is safe and smooth," he said.
Security operations began from the morning with the implementation of Tactical Wall Game (TWG) and a troops parade at West Merdeka Post.
Officers are on standby at several points to monitor the event held by two different groups of demonstrators.
The first group is the mass of the Indonesian Guard, Special Capital Region, which started the action at 10:00 WIB.
Before moving to Monas, they first gathered at ITC Cempaka Mas.
Then at 13.00 WIB, a group of demonstrators named "Applicant Victims" held a follow-up action with similar demands. One of their main demands is the implementation of a maximum application deduction limit of 10 percent.
