The Shiro Copr, MAUMERE - Let's check today's Catholic liturgical calendar, Monday, July 21, 2025.

The Catholic liturgical calendar today is prepared for the Memorial of Saint Laurensius Brindisi.

The Feast of Saint Laurensius Brindisi with green liturgical color.

Monday Reading: Ex. 14:5-18; MT Ex. 15:1-2,3-4,5-6; Matt. 12:38-42 and BcO 2 Sam. 18:6-19:4.

First Reading:

Exodus 14:5    When Pharaoh was told that the people had fled, his heart and his servants' hearts changed regarding the people, and they said, "What have we done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"

Exodus 14:6    Then he put his chariot in order and took his people with him.

Exodus 14:7 He took six hundred chosen chariots, yes, all the chariots of Egypt, each one with its commander.

Exodus 14:8    Thus the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites. But the Israelites went on with a high hand.

Exodus 14:9    But the Egyptians, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, pursued them and overtook them while they were camping by the sea, near Pi-Hahiroth, in front of Baal-Zephon.

Exodus 14:10    When Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and there were the Egyptians marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord,

Exodus 14:11    and they said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the desert? What have you done to us by bringing us up out of Egypt?

Numbers 14:12    Hasn't this already been told to you in Egypt: Do not trouble us, and let us serve the Egyptians. For it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in this wilderness."

Exodus 14:13    But Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid, stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you will never see again forever."

Exodus 14:14    "The Lord will fight for you, and you need only to be silent."

Exodus 14:15    The Lord said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to move on.

Exodus 14:16    But you, lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide the water, so that the children of Israel may go through the midst of the sea on dry ground.

Exodus 14:17    But I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, so that they will go after the Israelites. Then I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, his chariots and his horsemen.

Ezekiel 14:18    Then the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord, when I show My glory through Pharaoh, his chariot, and his horsemen."

Response Psalm:

Exodus 15:1    At that time, Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord: "I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; the horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea."

Psalm 15:2 The Lord is my strength and my song, He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him; He is the God of my father, and I will exalt Him.

Exodus 15:3    The Lord is a warrior; the Lord, that is His name.

Exodus 15:4 The chariot of Pharaoh and his army has He cast into the sea; His choice officers have been sunk into the Red Sea.

Psalm 15:5    The great sea covered them; into the deep waters they sank like a stone.

Psalm 15:6    Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power, your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.

Catholic Gospel:

Matthew 12:38    At that time, some of the teachers of the law and some Pharisees said to Jesus, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you."

Mat 12:39    But He answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Matthew 12:40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Matthew 12:41    At the time of judgment, the people of Nineveh will rise up with this generation and condemn it. For the people of Nineveh repented after hearing Jonah's message, and indeed, something greater than Jonah is here!

Matthew 12:42    At the time of judgment, the queen of the South will rise up with this generation and condemn it. For she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and indeed, there is something greater than Solomon here!"

BCO:

2Sam 18:6    Then the army went into the field to fight against Israel, and the battle took place in the forest of Ephraim.

2Sam 18:7    The army of Israel was defeated there by the men of David, and that day there was a great slaughter there: twenty thousand men died.

2Sam 18:8    Then the battle spread out from there over the whole country, and the forest devoured more people among the army than the sword did on that day.

2Sam 18:9    Now Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. And Absalom was riding on a mule. When the mule went under the thick branches of a terebinth tree, his head caught hold of the tree, so that he was suspended between heaven and earth, while the mule that he was riding went on.

2Sam 18:10    Someone saw him and told Joab, saying, "I saw Absalom hanging on a terebinth tree."

2Sam 18:11    Joab said to the man who told him: "Why did you not strike him down there? Then I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a belt."

2Sam 18:12    But the man said to Joab: "Even if I had a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, I would not reach out to touch the king's son, for in our ears the king gave orders to you and to Abishai and to Itai, saying: 'Take care of Absalom the young man for me.'"

2Sam 18:13 But if I had killed him treacherously, there would be nothing hidden from the king; then you would have kept away."

2Sam 18:14    But Joab said, "I will not waste time with you like this." Then he took three darts in his hand and thrust them into Absalom's heart while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree.

2Sam 18:15    Then ten young men, Joab's armor-bearers, surrounded Absalom, and they struck him and killed him.

2Sam 18:16    After that, Joab blew the trumpet, and the army stopped pursuing the men of Israel; for Joab wanted to hold back his army.

2Sam 18:17    Then they took the body of Absalom and threw it into a large pit in the forest, and they raised a great heap of stones over him. And all the Israelites fled, each to his own tent.

2Sam 18:18    While Absalom was alive, he set up for himself a monument which is now in the Valley of the King, for he said, "I have no son to preserve my memory." And he named the monument after his own name; therefore, to this day it is called the Monument of Absalom.

2Sam 18:19 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me run and deliver the good news to the king that the Lord has vindicated him by delivering him from the hand of his enemies."

2Sam 18:20    But Joab said to him, "Today you are not the one to bring the news, you may bring the news another day, but today you will not bring the news because the king's son is dead."

2Sam 18:21 Then Joab said to an Ethiopian: "Go, tell the king what you have seen." The Ethiopian bowed to Joab and ran off.

2Sam 18:22 But Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab: "Whatever happens, let me also run after the Ethiopian." But Joab said, "Why do you want to run, my son? Do you bring good news?"

2Sam 18:23    Answer: "Whatever happens, I want to run away." Then Joab said to him: "If that is so, run away." So Ahimaas ran along the road from the Valley of the Jordan, thus overtaking the Ethiopian man.

2Sam 18:24    Now David was sitting between the two gates, while the watchman went up to the top of the gate, on the wall. When he looked, he saw a man running alone.

2Sam 18:25    The guard reported to the king, and the king said, "If he is alone, he must have good news." As the man approached,

2Sam 18:26    The guard saw another man running, and the guard called out to the gatekeeper, saying, "Look, another man is running alone." The king said, "He also brings good news."

2Sam 18:27    After that the guard said, "I see the manner of the first one who is running, it is like the manner of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok." The king said, "He is a good man, he comes with good news."

2Sam 18:28 Then Ahimaaz cried, "Peace!" And he bowed himself to the king with his face to the ground, and said, "Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delivered the men who lifted their hand against my lord the king."

2Sam 18:29 Then the king asked, "Is Absalom, that young man, safe?" Ahimaas answered, "I saw a great commotion when Joab sent the king's servant, your servant, away, but I did not know what it was."

2Sam 18:30    Then the king said, "Go to the side, stand here." He went to the side and stood there.

2Sam 18:31    Then the Ethiopian came. The Ethiopian said, "My lord the king has received good news, for the Lord has granted justice to you today by delivering your lord from the hand of all those who rose up against your lord."

2Sam 18:32 But the king asked the Ethiopian: "Is Absalom, that young man, safe?" The Ethiopian answered: "Let that young man be an enemy to my lord the king and all those who rise against my lord to do evil."

2Sam 18:33    Then the king was moved with emotion, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And thus he said as he walked: "My son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Oh, that I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son!"

2Sam 19:1    Then tell Joab, "Know that the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom."

2Sam 19:2    On that day the victory became mourning for all the army, because on that day the army heard people say: "The king is grieving because of his son."

2Sam 19:3    Therefore the army entered the city secretly on that day, like an army that is ashamed and returns secretly because it fled from the battle.

2Sam 19:4    The king covered his face, and with a loud voice wept: "My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son!" (Source: catholicfaith.com/kgg).
