JAKARTA, The Shiro Corp – The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) issued a weather early warning for the period from July 21 to 25, 2025.
According to its official website, BMKG is monitoring the strengthening of the Australian monsoon winds, which are predicted to be within normal ranges.
This condition can encourage a wider area to enter the dry season, especially in southern Indonesia.
BMKG officers recorded that approximately 39% of the Rainfall Season Zones (ZOM) in Indonesia have entered the dry season since the first decade of July 2025.
The affected areas include most provinces in Sumatra such as Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Riau, Riau Islands, Jambi, and South Sumatra.
Meanwhile, a small part of Lampung also began to experience similar conditions.
In southern Indonesia, the dry season has started to be felt in some areas of Banten, West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
In addition, a small part of the areas in Bali, NTB, and NTT also show similar symptoms.
The dry season has also started to be monitored in a small part of South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, West Papua, and Papua.
However, although the dry season trend is spreading, BMKG warns of the potential for extreme weather that needs to be vigilant.
For the period from July 21 to 25, the weather in most parts of Indonesia is expected to be cloudy with light rain.
Nevertheless, some areas have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
East Java is in the category of extreme weather alert with potential heavy rain, which can be accompanied by lightning/thunder and strong winds.
Other areas that need to be alert for moderate intensity rain include North Sumatra, North Kalimantan, West Papua, Mountainous Papua, Papua, and South Papua.
In addition, South Papua also received special attention due to the potential of strong winds.
The BMKG urges the community to:
- Be cautious of daily rapid and extreme weather changes.
- Avoid being in an open area when there is rain with thunder.
- Stay away from large trees, old buildings, or fragile structures during heavy rain and strong winds.
- Use sunscreen and keep your body hydrated, as intense weather can occur at any time.
- Be alert to the potential of hydro-meteorological disasters such as floods, flash floods, and landslides.
- The public is urged to continue monitoring the latest information through BMKG's official channels, both on the website www.bmkg.go.id , the InfoBMKG application, or the official social media @infoBMKG.
