Alex Pastoor's presence in the recent Indonesia U23 National Team training session is believed to be one way to identify talent pools ready for use at the senior level.
Gerald Vanenburg revealed that Alex Pastoor's presence to monitor the Indonesia U23 national team is part of carrying out his duties.
According to Vanenburg, the final decision on which players will enter the Garuda senior squad is entirely in the hands of Patrick Kluivert.
"Yes, but I think Alex didn't make the decision. I think Patrick is the head coach. So he's the one who made the decision," he said.
Gerald added that as the coach of Garuda Muda, he tried to provide the information needed by Alex.
This information will later be considered in the selection of players by the Indonesian national team.
One of the pillars of the Indonesia U23 national team who is currently being widely discussed is Jens Raven. He is believed to be one of the options in the attack line of the Indonesia senior national team, which is missing Ole Romeny due to an injury.
"So I think when Patrick said he wanted a player or needed a player, Alex might come and look. But I don't know," explained Gerald Vanenburg.
Gerald emphasized his commitment to helping the Indonesian national team, especially to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Nevertheless, he didn't want to get too involved because it was the domain of the senior national team coach.
"Up to now, nothing has happened, and if you can help the main team to go to the World Cup. I can get all my places. I don't care," he emphasized.
Currently, the Indonesia U-23 national team is preparing for the match against Malaysia, with great ambition to secure three points from this game.
