About 50,000 Application Drivers Will Surround the Palace Today in Action 217, Here Are Their Demands

The Shiro Copr - Approximately 50,000 online ride-hailing drivers (ojol), online taxi drivers, and cross-application couriers are expected to take to the streets in an action titled "Aksi 217: Application Victims Surround the Presidential Palace."

This demo is the result of disappointment due to the lack of follow-up from the government after the peaceful demonstration on May 20, 2025, and the Hearing (RDP) with the V Commission of the DPR RI regarding the fate of online transportation drivers.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Ojol Driver Association, Raden Igun Wicaksono, stated that this action will be much larger and could paralyze parts of Jakarta.

"Approximately 50,000 online transportation drivers, including motorcycle (ojol) riders, four-wheeler online drivers, and cross-platform application couriers, will hold a large demonstration again on Monday, July 21, 2025," he said.

In addition, the demonstrators also called for a mass strike. The public is asked to anticipate transportation needs on that day because almost all online drivers and couriers will not be operating.

"Operator Aplikator as the executor of Action 217 urges the public users of ojol, online taxis, and online couriers to prepare and adjust their transportation needs on Monday, July 21, 2025, because most online drivers and couriers will go on a mass strike," he emphasized.

This action, according to Igun, is the accumulation of disappointment towards the Transportation Ministry's attitude, which is seen as not firm and unresponsive. He stated that the Transportation Ministry, as the extended hand of President Prabowo Subianto, has instead made decisions that are not favorable to online motorcycle taxi drivers.

"Unclear and unresponsive is the Ministry of Transportation and the Minister of Transportation representing the government and President Prabowo, who have allowed the previous demands to be delayed for too long, even making an unproductive decision, namely increasing the ojol (online motorcycle taxi) fare by 15%," he explained.

They question the current government's position, whether it is on the side of the people or rather the app business operators.

Here are Five Demands of the Ojol 217 Protesters:

1. Country Present Online Transportation Law/PERPPU

2. Driver 90% Applicator 10% DEAD PRICE

3. Government Issues Regulations on Inter-Commodity and Food Tariffs

4. Investigative Audit of the Applicant

5. Remove Aceng, Slot, Hub, Multi Order, Member, Packaging and others

They mentioned that the participants of the action are not only online drivers, but also other affected groups such as workers, employees, students, school students, and micro and small business owners.

They also strongly condemned the attitude of the Minister of Transportation, who is seen as failing to resolve this issue since May.

"The association is very sorry that the Minister of Transportation allowed the 217 Action to happen, which targeted President Prabowo, leading the public to assess that President Prabowo's leadership is not concrete in resolving the online transportation issues, which should have been resolved by the Minister of Transportation in May 2025," he explained.

They emphasized that if the demands are not heeded, they threaten to continue holding continuous actions from August until December 2025.

"If the Minister of Transportation and the President do not respond to our demands, the 217 Action will not be the last one. From August to December 2025, we will carry out wave-like mass actions throughout Indonesia with various online driver alliances across Nusantara," he added. (*)
