AMBON, The Shiro Copr – During the first week of the 2025 Salawaku Enforcement Operation, 736 traffic violators were caught in Ambon City.

This operation aims to improve the community's awareness and discipline in traffic. It involves various law enforcement agencies.

Data from Ditlantas Polda Maluku recorded 286 violations, consisting of 143 two-wheeled vehicle drivers and 143 four-wheeled vehicle drivers.

Meanwhile, Satlantas Polresta Pulau Ambon and Pulau-pulau Lease recorded 450 violations.

Out of the total, 136 offenders were directly given a ticket on the spot, while 314 other offenders only received a warning.

In addition to fines and sanctions, offenders are also given education on the importance of obeying traffic signs and driving equipment.

Rositah Umasugi, Head of Public Relations of Maluku Police, explained that this "Patuh" Operation is not just enforcement, but also a continuous educational effort.

"Operation Patuh aims to increase public awareness and discipline regarding traffic safety," said Kombes Rositah, Sunday (7/20/2025).

Operation Satgas Patuh Salawaku involves elements of TNI POM, Propam Polda Maluku, and the Provincial Transportation Office of Maluku.

The presence of Propam and TNI POM in this operation aims to supervise and ensure that no individual officer commits violations and to maintain professionalism during the implementation of duties.

The main focus of the operation is to take action against various visible traffic violations that have the potential to cause accidents.

This includes the use of non-standard helmets, carrying more than one person, using noisy exhaust systems, as well as violations of vehicle documents and driver's documents.

"We hope that with this operation, the community becomes more aware of the importance of obeying traffic rules for mutual safety," said Kombes Rositah.

She also emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Therefore, the community is urged to always equip themselves with valid vehicle documents, use standard safety equipment, and comply with traffic signs.

Operation Salawaku 2025 is held for 14 days, starting from July 14 to 27, 2025.

With the remaining operational time, it is hoped that the level of public awareness and traffic discipline can continue to increase. (*)
