2 Officials of PT BR Become Suspects in Illegal Timber Case in Ketapang, West Kalimantan

P ONTIANAK, The Shiro Corporation— The Forest Law Enforcement Agency of the Kalimantan region has designated two executives of PT Boma Resources as suspects in the case of illegal log trafficking in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.

Both are Directors of PT BR, HMW (42) and Commissioners of the company, SH alias ANT (50).

They are suspected to be the intellectual actors behind the illegal logging.

Head of the Kalimantan Law Enforcement Office, Leonardo Gultom said that 76 logs without proper documents were seized by the Gakkum investigators on June 2, 2025, at the Terminal Product Wood (TPK) Industry of PT BSM New Material.

"Those woods are suspected to be supplied to the processing industry without a Forest Product Legality Certificate (SKSHH)," said Leonardo in a written statement on Monday (21/7/2025).

Leonardo explained that this determination is the result of the development of SDS statements, technical staff and SIPUHH PT BR operators, who had previously been designated as suspects.

In the examination, SDS admitted that he was directly ordered by HMW to issue fake SKSHH documents and transport notes.

Two documents seized by the investigator are SKSHH Number KB.C.5470366 dated May 28, 2025, for 5 pieces of wood (17.37 m³) and Transport Note Number 01/NTA/BR/V/2025 dated May 29, 2025, for 76 pieces of wood (220.39 m³).

The wood was sent from TPK Antara Senduruhan owned by PT BR to the wharf of PT BSM New Material.

In addition to HMW and SH, the investigators have also designated three other suspects, namely AI (56), ZL (53), and SDS.

The suspect is charged under Law No. 18 of 2013 on the Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction, as amended by Law No. 6 of 2023 on Job Creation, as well as several articles in the Criminal Code.

Leonardo emphasized that his party will not tolerate the practice of falsifying forest product documents.

"Modus of illegally logging timber with fake documents is a serious crime that undermines forest governance. We will take strict action," said Leonardo.

The Director General of Environmental and Forestry Law Enforcement, Dwi Januarto Nurgroho, stated that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is committed to eradicating forestry crimes to the root.

"Environmental criminals who gain personal profits and harm the country must be punished to the maximum extent. This is important to save the ecosystem, natural resources, and to maintain Indonesia's commitment in controlling the climate crisis," Dwi said.

She also reminded forest business actors to comply with legal regulations to support sustainable forest management.
