Shin Tae-yong Sets the Record Straight on Speculation About Becoming China National Team Coach, STY直言: I Will Accept It

The Shiro Corporation - Finally, Shin Tae-yong (STY) responded to the speculation about coaching the Chinese national team.

The former head coach of the Indonesian national team declared his readiness to coach the Chinese national team, stating that he feels very interested.

For this reason, the former coach of the Indonesian National Team is eager to wait for an official offer from the Chinese Football Association (CFA).

The Chinese Football Federation is currently looking for a replacement for Branko Ivankovic, who was fired without compensation.

Pelatih asal Kroasia itu ditendang akibat gagal membawa Timnas China memperebutkan tiket Piala Dunia 2026.

In the final standings of Group C in the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers, China is in fifth place, which is the bottom spot, just above Bahrain.

As a result, the team was eliminated, dispelling the dream of the Dragon Team to play in the World Cup for the second time since 2002.

Two automatic tickets to the 2026 World Cup from the third round went to Japan and Australia.

Sementara Arab Saudi dan Indonesia masuk ke putaran keempat kualifikasi bersama empat tim lain dari dua gurp berbeda untuk berebut dua tiket langsung ke Kanada, Meksiko, Amerika Serikat.

Immediately after Ivankovic was fired, Chinese social media speculated that Shin Tae-yong became a target for CFA.

The coach from South Korea is indeed famous in his country and has not been bound to any team since being fired by PSSI on January 6, 2025.

Speaking to South Korean newspaper News1, on June 17, 2025, the 54-year-old coach said he had not received any offers from CFA yet.

However, he immediately emphasized that leading the Chinese national team would be an intriguing challenge.

If invited, I will accept it and am confident that I will do well. There is nothing to worry about.

"Leading a China team is clearly a very interesting job," he revealed.

The former coach of the South Korean national team emphasized that he understands Chinese football more than people might imagine, thanks to his experience as a player and coach.

After witnessing the decline of Chinese football, Shin Tae-yong is convinced that he understands the reasons behind it and will do well if given control.

"China has failed despite continuously inviting renowned foreign coaches. I think I know the reason," said STY.

"Pertama, kita perlu memahami negara dan orang-orang China, kemudian mencari tahu apa yang mereka kuasai dan menerapkannya dalam praktik."

A coach who only tries to provide good tactics will not solve everything.

Shin Tae-yong is ready to realize the dream of the rulers and people of China, seeing their football transform from a small country in the football arena into a world power.

As a major country, China is very confident that it can achieve this because it has been proven that they have risen from poverty to become the world's second largest economy in just a few decades.

In 2011, about a year before becoming the leader of China, Xi Jinping had already outlined his vision for the revival of his country's football.

She explained the three-stage plan within that vision for the Chinese national team, which is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, host the World Cup, and win the World Cup.

Unfortunately, the vision to transform into a dragon in football has been ruined, experiencing a decline over the past few years.

Branko Ivankovic is the eighth coach of China in just 10 years.

The Chinese national team has never had a coach from South Korea.

If CFA has officially recruited Shin Tae-yong, all the people of China are looking forward to their national team rising up as soon as possible.

Once Defeated Germany 2-0

Shin mulai menorehkan namanya dalam karier kepelatihan saat membantu Seongnam FC menjuarai Liga Champions Asia 2010 dan Piala FA Korea 2011.

After that, he played for the South Korean national team at all levels, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and advancing from the group stage of the 2017 U-20 World Cup.

During the 2018 World Cup, he led the South Korean national team to an impressive 2-0 victory over Germany, the defending champions at that time.

Since the end of 2019, Shin has been in Indonesia.

He successfully helped the island nation's football achieve major goals, such as advancing from the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup, reaching the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, and progressing to the Third Round of Qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

All of that is a historic achievement for the largest football nation in Southeast Asia.

Shin's achievements with Indonesia once led the Korean press to compare him with his compatriot, Park Hang-seo, when he was leading Vietnam.

After Indonesia was eliminated from the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Cup along with the U-20 team, Shin was fired.

Not being liked by many of the Dutch-born naturalized players became a strong reason for his dismissal.

Before leaving, he helped the Indonesian National Team achieve their first victory in the third round of qualifiers by defeating Saudi Arabia 2-0 in November 2024.

A month earlier, Shin failed as Indonesia was defeated by China 2-1, then his replacement, Patrick Kluivert, avenged with a 1-0 win to secure the ticket for the fourth round.

Kesiapan Shin Tae-yong melatih Timnas China sebetulnya masih mengandung pertanyaan, betulkah dia benar-benar serius.

In a statement to a Korean newspaper on April 7th, he said he would take a year-long leave to enhance his knowledge about football before returning to his career.

However, two days later, the Korea Football Association (KFA) announced his appointment as vice president of the federation responsible for international cooperation.

KFA also has four other vice presidents, including Park Hang-seo, who supports the national team.
