RUBLIK DEPOK - The arrival of President Prabowo Subianto in St. Petersburg, Russia, was enthusiastically welcomed by Indonesian citizens who are part of the diaspora community. They gathered in front of the hotel where the President was staying on Wednesday night (June 18, 2025), to be able to have a face-to-face meeting with the Head of State who is currently on a diplomatic mission to the Russian Federation.

President Prabowo did not go directly to the hotel to rest. He chose to greet the Indonesian people who had been waiting for his arrival since the afternoon. With warmth, Prabowo approached the citizens, chatted casually, and was willing to accommodate requests for selfies. This action sparked extraordinary enthusiasm among the diaspora, who felt valued and noticed directly by the nation's leader.

Daniya Sabirova, a Russian citizen married to an Indonesian man, was deeply touched by the President's hospitality. She spoke in Indonesian and was met with attentive responses from Prabowo. Daniya hopes that this visit will serve as a bridge to strengthen bilateral relations between Russia and Indonesia.

The same hope was expressed by other diaspora members, who believe that the President's direct presence in Russia reflects the government's seriousness in strengthening cross-border cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, defense, and education.

Students and Indonesian Citizens in Russia Proud to Meet in Person

Nita, a student from Siborongborong who is pursuing her master's degree in agriculture, expressed great pride at being able to shake hands with the President. When Prabowo greeted her in the local dialect with "Horas Mejuah-juah," the atmosphere became more emotional. She did not expect to experience such a memorable moment while studying abroad.

Hal this is also felt by Ambar, a resident of Solo who has been settled in St. Petersburg for eight years. She came with her husband and children who were wearing traditional clothing from Java and Kalimantan. Ambar recounted that the President briefly spoke with her children and asked about her husband's ability to speak Indonesian, who is a local resident.

Strong Support from the Cabinet and Diplomatic Message

Prabowo's presence in Russia was welcomed not only by the residents but also by the members of the Cabinet Merah Putih who had arrived earlier. This visit is part of a series of important diplomatic visits which include meetings with the Russian President and participation in an international economic forum.

This visit also serves as tangible proof of the government's commitment to expand strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, including strengthening the defense sector, bilateral trade, student exchange, and technology.
