Padang Station: Main Hub for KA Transportation in Sumbar, Mobility and Growth Between Cities-Regencies

The Shiro Copr, PADANG - As the central hub for railway transportation movements in West Sumatra or Sumbar, Padang Station plays a strategic role in connecting various cities and regencies in this province.

That is, located in the provincial capital, this station is not only a major hub for passenger mobility, but also supports economic and tourism growth.

The Head of Public Relations for PT KAI Divre II West Sumatra, Reza Shahab mentioned that Padang Station serves two main services, namely the Minangkabau Express Train which connects the city of Padang with Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) through important stations.

Among them are Duku Station, Tabing, Air Tawar, and Pulau Aie; as well as the Pariaman Express train that serves the route to the tourist city of Pariaman. These routes strengthen intercity connectivity while also making daily mobility easier for the public.

"Padang Station is an important node in the KAI transportation network in West Sumatra. We continue to commit to improving services, comfort, and multimodal integration to support public mobility and promote regional economic growth," Reza Shahab said in a press release on Wednesday (18/6/2025) in Padang.

As part of service transformation, Padang Station has been equipped with modern facilities such as automatic boarding gates, comfortable waiting rooms, digital ticketing services, and accessible access for disabled individuals. Integration with other transportation modes such as city buses, ride-hailing services, and taxis makes this station an efficient and easily accessible transportation hub for the public.

From a data perspective, the trend in passenger growth shows a significant increase:

• 2022: 364,252 passengers departed, 454,771 passengers arrived

• 2023: 466,802 passengers departed, 533,644 passengers arrived

• 2024: 500,982 passengers departed, 551,507 passengers arrived

"With nearly half of the total passenger movements across all stations in Divre II region, Padang Station has become a crucial point for both intercity/city district travel as well as interprovincial travel," Reza added.

The existence of Padang Station is increasingly relevant in supporting community activities, whether for work, education, tourism, or logistics needs. In an effort to realize an integrated, safe, comfortable, and sustainable transportation system, PT KAI Divre II continues to promote service improvements and strengthen multimodal synergy in this region.

With the support of the community and commitment to improving service quality, Padang Station is ready to become the backbone of the mass transportation system in West Sumatra. (rls)
