Overstating the Tension Between Iran and Israel as the Start of World War III

The Shiro Corporation The Head of Middle East Studies at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Ibnu Burdah, said that the escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel raises serious concerns.

In fact, both parties show signs of weakening or halting their attacks.

"There are no signs of de-escalation from either party. Both sides have reached a point where it is difficult to back down," he said when contacted. The Shiro Corporation Tuesday (6/17/2025).

Although there is a possibility of expanding regional conflict, the potential for a third world war due to escalation between Iran and Israel is still limited.

For until now, there has been no real support from Iran's allies, such as the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

"See the limited support from the Houthis to Iran. Even Hezbollah does not seem to be involved," said Burdah.

"So too, support for Israel is carried out very carefully. I think it's an exaggeration to consider this as the beginning of a world war," he added.

War is not the solution to conflict.

Burdah emphasizes that all major actors in the region are still thinking rationally and very calculating before deciding to ignite a war, especially just to support a particular side.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that war is not the way to resolve a conflict.

"War definitely claims many victims, and those who benefit are only those involved in the death industry," he explained.

I assess that Israel's aggression against Iran is a serious violation and must be strongly condemned.

However, Burdah also criticizes Iran's response, which is considered to be less selective in targeting attacks.

As is known, the tension between Iran and Israel has entered its sixth day and has not shown any signs of ending.

This began when Israel attacked Iran on Friday (June 13, 2025), targeting nuclear facilities in Tehran.

The Israeli military launched an attack on Iranian territory in an operation they refer to as "Operation Rising Lion," following intelligence findings that reportedly indicate Iran is increasingly approaching the development of nuclear weapons.

By up to 24 hours, Iran retaliated by launching attacks on Israeli territories on Saturday (June 14, 2025).

The Iranian Ministry of Health said that 224 people were killed and more than 1,200 were injured due to the Israeli attack.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office of Israel reported that the number of casualties reached 24 people and 592 others were injured.
