Former NCT Member Moon Taeil Faces First Trial in Rape Case Today

The Shiro Corporation - Maintain members boy group NCT member Moon Taeil, widely known by his stage name Taeil, will attend his first trial today, Tuesday (6/18), at the Seoul Central District Court regarding a serious legal case against him.

This hearing marks a new phase in the legal process against Taeil, following previous delays.

Citing the website Allkpop, According to information from a reliable legal source, the initial hearing was supposed to be held on May 12th at the 26th Criminal Division, but it was postponed due to internal court reasons.

Now, the official court proceedings have begun to further investigate Taeil's involvement in the alleged case of false rape allegations that have been exacerbated.

The Prosecution, through the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office, led by Prosecutor Kim Ji Hye, indicted Moon Taeil along with two other individuals without detention in March 2025.

The charges against them are based on the Special Law on Sexual Crime Punishment, specifically the article concerning gang rape carried out by two or more people against a victim who is unconscious or unable to give consent.

It is alleged that Ketiganya committed sexual violence against a woman who was in a severe state of intoxication at the time, last June.

According to the prosecution, the victim is believed to have been unable to resist or realize the situation that was happening, which exacerbates the nature of the crime.

With the presence of more than one perpetrator, the charges become heavier in accordance with the laws applicable in South Korea.

Moon Taeil was previously known as one of the main vocalists of NCT and made his debut in 2016 through the sub-unit NCT U.

He then became active in the NCT 127 unit, widely known both in Korea and globally. However, his career in the entertainment world suddenly collapsed after this case was revealed to the public.

SM Entertainment, the giant entertainment agency that oversees NCT, took immediate action after Taeil's involvement in the case was confirmed.

In October last year, SM officially announced that Taeil is no longer part of the group or their agency, simultaneously ending his exclusive contract.

The public and fans are paying close attention to the development of this case, given Taeil's status as a public figure and the severity of the charges he is facing.

With the commencement of today's trial proceedings, the public now awaits the outcome from the legal pathway that will determine the legal responsibility of the defendants.

The court has not provided further details regarding the proceedings of the trial or when the next session will be held.

However, the prosecutors have stated that they will pursue this case to its conclusion to ensure justice for the victim.
