Jabar PR - The Government of the Special Capital Region (DKI) Jakarta has declared its readiness to cooperate with the West Java (Jabar) Provincial Government in addressing severe infrastructure damage in the Parung Panjang area, Bogor Regency. This collaboration was proposed following the heavy burden borne by West Java due to the distribution of construction materials from that region to Jakarta and Tangerang.
Heavy Infrastructure Damage, Affects Residents
Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung emphasized that his side is open to collaborating with anyone to improve road conditions and the environment in affected areas. This statement was made at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (6/17/2025) as a response to a request from Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi.
"Anyway, if it's collaboration, the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta are ready to work with anyone," said Pramono.
This collaboration request arose during the Governor Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Forum of Partner Prime Regions (FKD-MPU) held in Jakarta. Dedi Mulyadi stated that the West Java Provincial Government is having difficulty bearing the cost of repairing the severely damaged Parung Panjang area, which was affected by distribution activities to the capital and its surroundings. The estimated budget for comprehensive repairs is said to reach Rp 1.2 trillion.
"If high-quality roads are built, it would require 1.2 trillion Rupiah. But it's impossible for West Java to rebuild an entire district on its own because we have more than 600 districts," said Dedi.
Jakarta and Tangerang must take part
According to Dedi, the distribution of materials such as soil and rocks for large-scale projects in Jakarta and Tangerang has placed a heavy burden on Parung Panjang as an upstream area. Infrastructure damage is accompanied by an increase in cases of diseases such as Acute Respiratory Infections (ISPA) among residents.
"The infrastructure is completely destroyed, the community is affected by respiratory issues. There should be a collective awareness from Jakarta and Tangerang as beneficiaries," he said.
Dedi emphasized that the development of Jakarta, which has generated economic growth and enriched property developers, should not leave behind the suffering of residents in West Java. He pushed for the establishment of a collective cross-regional recovery mechanism.
"The development growth occurring in Jakarta has created a multiplier effect, but also poverty and suffering in the upstream regions. There must be shared responsibility," he added.
Death Cases and Landslides Sound the Danger Alarm
The circulating data shows that as many as 194 people have died on the Parung Panjang route in the last six years. Not long ago, a truck driver also died when buried by a landslide while queuing at the excavation site.
This situation has sparked public pressure for comprehensive infrastructure improvements to be carried out promptly, involving Jakarta and Banten as beneficiaries of the development but which have not borne the brunt of the damage caused.
