Jakarta Welcomes Free Private Schools, DKI Provincial Government Officially Prepares a Budget of Rp90 M

JAKARTA, The Shiro Corp - The Jakarta Provincial Government officially allocated a fund of Rp90 billion from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) to finance the free private school program in the capital.

The budget is allocated for 40 private schools designated as part of the program.

Special Staff of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta Province for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, said that initial funds have been prepared from the main APBD, while the remaining part will be released through the Revised APBD, which is scheduled to be approved by the DPRD at the end of July.

"Remaining awaits the revised APBD that will be approved by the DPRD at the end of this month," said Chico when confirmed in Jakarta, Thursday (17/7/2025) quoting. Among .

Although the Governor's Regulation (Pergub) that serves as the legal basis for the program has not yet been officially released, Chico ensured that the regulation is currently in the finalization stage by the relevant agency and legal bureau. He mentioned that the Pergub will be approved at the latest within two months.

"Longest is about 2 months. The process of drafting the legal product is still ongoing," he said.

Meanwhile, Jakarta's Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated in the DPRD Plenary Session that the total Draft of the 2025 APBD Revision reached Rp91.86 trillion, an increase of 0.57 percent from the previous original APBD amounting to Rp91.34 trillion.

One of the main points in this change is strengthening access to education through free private schools.

This program has been practically running since the start of the new academic year, although its legal basis is not yet fully completed. Secretary of the Jakarta Education Office, Taga Radja Gah, emphasized that this step was taken to ensure that no child in Jakarta is delayed in school due to administrative factors.

"If we wait for the regulation first, then the school will not open, which would be a pity. That's why we have discussed with private schools. The regulation hasn't been issued yet, but Insha Allah we will continue processing," said Taga.

The DKI Education Office has had intensive discussions with 40 private schools participating in the program. Taga mentioned that all schools understand the situation and approve of the cooperation, even though government payments can only be made after the Pergub comes into effect.

"For payments, it's waiting for the Pergub, and they understand. This is the form of collaboration between the community and the Pemda," said Taga.

This free private school program is aimed at reaching areas that do not have public schools, while also providing equal educational opportunities for all children in Jakarta.
