Cause of Traffic Jam, School Entry Time in Bekasi Back to 07.00

BEKASI, The Shiro Copr– Bekasi City Government (Pemkot Bekasi) officially restored the school entry time for elementary and junior high schools from 06.30 WIB to 07.00 WIB.

This change was made following the negative impact of the previous policy, which caused traffic jams at several points, especially around school areas.

Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto said this decision was made after a one-week evaluation of the implementation of the 06:30 WIB entry time.

"Based on the evaluation, both from the psychological and transportation aspects," said Tri when met at the Bekasi City Office on Monday (21/7/2025).

According to Tri, traffic congestion occurs because students and workers depart at almost the same time. This causes a buildup of vehicles on several road sections.

"Actually, having them all at the same time causes various queues and then traffic jams on several road sections, especially in areas around schools," he said.

They added that the decision to restore the school start time also took into account the aspirations of the community, including businesspeople, parents of students, and government officials.

"First of all, we listened to the community, business stakeholders, and then government agencies. From the beginning, we asked them to conduct daily evaluations," he said.

From the one-week trial results, Tri concluded that Bekasi City is not yet suitable to implement a 06:30 WIB school start time for all educational levels.

However, the 06:30 WIB entry policy still applies to high school students.

"Based on the results of the one-week trial, it turned out to be unsuitable, therefore modifications are needed. That's why for SMA at 06:30 WIB, and SD and SMP at 07:00 WIB," explained Tri.

Tri also admitted that he has coordinated with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi regarding this school entry time change.

Previously, Bekasi City implemented an entry time of 06.30 WIB following the policy of the West Java Provincial Government. This regulation has been in effect for one week.
