Visit BBPP Kupang, Special Staff of Minister of Agriculture Unveils Food Security Strategy Towards Golden Indonesia

The Shiro Corporation - Special Staff of the Minister of Agriculture (SKM) for Agricultural Development Policy, Sam Herodian, conducted a working visit to Kupang Regency and took the time to visit the Kupang Agricultural Training Center (BBPP) office.
On that occasion, Sam Herodian clearly outlined the Ministry of Agriculture's strategy to achieve self-sufficiency and food security towards the Golden Indonesia.
The Head of BBPP Kupang, Hendro Cahyono, warmly welcomed the arrival of Sam Herodian.
"Welcome to BBPP Kupang, it is an honor for us to receive the visit of Sam Herodian and listen directly to the strategic policy direction of the Ministry of Agriculture," said Hendro.
Sam Herodian began his presentation by highlighting global challenges. He revealed that from January to February 2024, Indonesia, along with many other countries, was hit by a food crisis and fell into the category of a food security emergency.
This situation has pushed the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) to take strategic steps to support national food security.
"The Indonesian government is not standing idly by in the face of the global food crisis. We have implemented and continue to implement various strategic programs," asserts Sam Herodian.
Programmes promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture include: Development of Superior Seeds, Allocation of Subsidized Fertilizers, Transformation of Agriculture from Traditional to Modern Farming, Optimization of Swamp Land, Formation of Food Brigades, Utilization of Agricultural Extension Officers: Optimizing the role of extension officers in accompanying farmers.
Thanks to these efforts, Indonesia has achieved remarkable success. "Indonesia successfully produced 34.6 million tons of rice and ranked first in the USDA Rice Outlook," said Sam Herodian proudly. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) itself projects that rice production will increase by 11.17 percent from January to June 2025.
This achievement has brought Indonesia back to receiving the highest award in the field of food and agriculture from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
"This award is the second time, following President Soeharto previously receiving a similar medal in 1985," added Sam Herodian.
Previously, Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Andi Amran Sulaiman, expressed his appreciation for the hard work of all parties involved.
The award from FAO is real proof of the commitment and hard work of all agricultural stakeholders in Indonesia, from upstream to downstream. This is the fruit of our synergy in achieving food sovereignty," said Minister Amran.
In line with the Minister of Agriculture, the Head of the Agency for Agricultural Human Resources Development and Human Resource Development (BPPSDMP), Idha Widi Arsanti, emphasized the importance of the role of agricultural human resources.
"This achievement would not have been possible without the active role of extension workers and farmers who continue to innovate. BPPSDMP is fully committed to continuously improving the quality of our agricultural human resources for the sustainability of food security," Santi concluded.
Indonesia's success in facing food crises and gaining international recognition has become an important momentum in achieving the aspirations of the Golden Indonesia through a strong and sovereign agricultural sector. (*/Release BBPP Kupang/SW)
