Indonesia's Ambassador to the WTO Nur Rakhman Setyoko said that, as fellow developing countries, Indonesia understands the challenges faced by Uzbekistan in the process of meeting WTO standards.
He also appreciated the Uzbek government's reform steps to adapt to the multilateral trading system.
On the other hand, Indonesia's support for Uzbekistan's access through a bilateral agreement will also open up new opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries.
"The bilateral agreement between Indonesia and Uzbekistan is a strategic step that not only accelerates Uzbekistan's accession, but also opens up new opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries," Ambassador Nur said through a press statement on Wednesday (18/6/2025).
Meanwhile, Indonesia's Acting Permanent Representative to the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (PTRI) in Geneva, Ambassador Achsanul Habib, stated that through the accession process to the WTO, Indonesia hopes that Uzbekistan can achieve concrete benefits from integration into the multilateral trading system, including benefits from accelerated economic growth and sustainable development.
I would like to add that Indonesia's support for Uzbekistan's accession reflects its commitment to strengthening the relevance and credibility of the WTO as a global trade body.
"This agreement is also expected to further strengthen bilateral relations, especially in enhancing cooperation in the sectors of goods and services trade," Ambassador Habib added.
The signing of bilateral agreements between Uzbekistan and each WTO member represents support for Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO. Currently, almost all WTO members have provided their support.
