Honda's Sales Increase in May 2025, Brio and WR-V Become Key Models, Can They Compete with Toyota and Daihatsu?

The Shiro Corporation - The national automotive industry recorded positive growth amid a market that has not yet fully stabilized. One of the manufacturers that noted a significant increase is PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM).

In May 2025, HPM claimed to successfully record retail sales of 4,740 units. This number is slightly higher than the previous month, which stood at 4,539 units.

Model andalan seperti Honda Brio masih menjadi tulang punggung penjualan dengan torehan 2.574 unit, naik 9 persen dibanding April. Tak hanya itu, segmen SUV Honda juga menunjukkan performa menggembirakan.

For example, Honda HR-V increased by 9 percent with 866 units, while Honda WR-V recorded the highest increase of 18 percent, which is 567 units. Honda BR-V contributed 498 units, while domestically assembled models such as CR-V recorded 158 units.

If compared to its domestic competitors like Toyota and Daihatsu, Honda is indeed behind in terms of volume. Toyota often dominates with Avanza, Rush, and Raize, while Daihatsu relies on Sigra and Terios.

However, the design advantages and features of Honda's SUV line such as the WR-V and HR-V are beginning to win over consumers who desire a stylish look as well as efficient performance.

Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director at PT HPM, stated that despite the market conditions not being fully stable, demand continues to increase. He is also optimistic that the launch of the New Honda HR-V, which took place early June, and participation in the GIIAS 2025 event in July will boost sales performance in the second half of the year.

Not only relying on new products, Honda is also intensifying sales programs in the hope of boosting their sales performance.

Honda has also continued to strengthen its national presence. In early June, they inaugurated a new dealership in Bandung Regency, which became the seventh dealership opened that year in 2025.

With a combination of competitive products and consistent expansion strategies, Honda appears serious about challenging Toyota-Daihatsu's dominance in the Indonesian passenger car market. Competition in the LCGC and SUV segments is also certain to become even more intense in the second half of this year.
