SEPUTAR CIBUBUR - The residents of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) living and working in Rome, Italy, had a special day on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. They had the opportunity to meet personally with the Governor of NTT, Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, in a warm and enthusiastic gathering of camaraderie at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) for the Holy See, Vatican.
Father Casimir Nema SVD from Rome, in his statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, June 19, 2025, revealed that the event began with a warm welcome from the Indonesian Ambassador to the Holy See, Michael Trias Kuncahyono. In his speech, Ambassador Tryas welcomed the Governor of NTT by referring to him as the "old friend," indicating a close friendship that has been established for a long time.
In a friendly dialogue, Governor Melki provided a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in NTT—from achievements in development to the challenges faced by the community there. He sincerely conveyed his commitment to continue fighting for the progress of the land of Flobamorata.
However, it's not just about performance reports. In front of the NTT diaspora in Rome, Governor Melki also conveyed a heartfelt invitation: for them to not only be cultural ambassadors, but also bringers of inspiration. "What you see and experience abroad—the good things that can be applied—please share them for the progress of our hometown," he said with great hope.
The Q&A session was lively and reflective. Many participants raised questions, expressed hopes, and even voiced grievances about the current situation in the country, particularly regarding education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
The meeting concluded with a dinner filled with laughter and nostalgic stories. Local songs played, enticing feet to dance. The warm atmosphere typical of NTT felt very much alive amidst the warmth of Rome's air.
The presence of Governor Melki is not just a diplomatic agenda—but a warm embrace from home. For the people of NTT in Rome, this visit is an oasis in the midst of longing. A reminder that even though they are far from their homeland, they are never forgotten.
"Thank you, Mr. Gub, for your time. This visit is not just a reunion - but a gift that gives spirit, hope, and a sense of home in a foreign land," concluded Pater Kasmir Nema SVD. (Lucius GK)
